LEARNING WITH MOVIES

Here you have a small list of movies where you can learn the vocabulary through the dialogues the characters have used in each of them:

JASMINE: Father, I hate being forced into this. If I do marry, I want it to be for love.
SULTAN: Jasmine, it's not only this law. I'm not going to be around forever, and I just want to make sure you're taken care of, provided for.
JASMINE: Try to understand. I've never done a thing on my own. I've never had any real friends. Except you, Rajah. I've never even been outside the palace walls.

to hate	El verbo to hate significa odiar. Siempre es seguido de un gerundio.
I do marry	Realmente me caso. Notar el uso del auxiliar do. Este auxiliar no sería necesario (se podría haber dicho 'I marru') pero se agrega para enfatizar la acción.
to want something to be	querer que algo sea
to be around	estar cerca
to make sure (that)/of something	asegurarse de algo. Esta expresión puede estar seguida de that + sujeto + verbo, o de la construcción of + something/gerund. Por ejemplo, 'to make sure that you lock the door' o 'to make sure of locking the door.'
to take care of something/somebody	cuidar algo / a alguien
to provide for somebody	mantener a alguien, brindarle lo que necesita. Por ejemplo, 'They work hard to provide for their large family' significa 'Trabajan mucho para mantener a su numerosa familia.'
on my own = by myself	yo solo/a

BEAST: That hurts!
BELLE: If you'd hold still, it wouldn't hurt as much.
BEAST: Well, if you hadn't run away, this wouldn't have happened!
BELLE: Well, if you hadn't frightened me, I wouldn't have run away!

to hurt	doler. En las formas del pasado permanece invariable (hurt, hurt, hurt).
to hold still	quedarse quieto, inmóvil
to run away	salir corriendo, escaparse
to frighten somebody	asustar a alguien. Frigthened significa asustado y frightening equivale a espantoso, aterrador.  To be frightened of something es tener miedo de algo.
to control one's temper	controlarse. También puede decirse a alguien 'Mind your temper!' (¡Contrólate!)
to sting	picar. El sustantivo sting significa picadura.
by the way	a propósito.
to save somebody's life	salvarle la vida a alguien

ANNA: Do you think you could show us the way?
OLAF: Yeah. Why?
KRISTOFF: How does this work?
OLAF: Stop it, Sven. Trying to focus here. Yeah, why?
KRISTOFF: I'll tell you why. We need Elsa to bring back summer.
OLAF: Summer? Oh, I don't know why but I've always loved the idea of summer and sun, and all things hot.
KRISTOFF: Really? I'm guessing you don't have much experience with heat.

nope	Forma coloquial informal de decir no.

to feel like something	sentirse como algo
such an idiot	tan idiota. Esta construcción se compone de such + artículo + sustantivo.
it took me (time) to do something	me llevó (período de tiempo) hacer algo
all morning	toda la mañana
to get up the nerve to do something	animarse a hacer algo
to face somebody	enfrentar a alguien
here you are	aquí estas
to thank somebody for something	agradecer a alguien por algo. Notar el uso de la preposición for.
You're welcome	De nada. Aunque literalmente, significa "Eres bienvenido". También podría decirse Don't mention it o más informalmente, That's OK.
to know about something	saber acerca de algo. Notar el uso de la preposición about.
misery	desgracia, desdicha
to hurt somebody	lastimar a alguien
to have no way out	no tener salida
the whole world	el mundo entero
to be trapped in	estar atrapado en. El verbo es to trap, atrapar. Como sustantivo, trap es una trampa.
like an insect in amber	como un insecto en ámbar
to get away (from somebody)	escaparse (de alguien)
big enough	lo suficientemente grande. Para aprender a usar enough ver Too/Enough.
to think about something	pensar en algo. Notar el uso de la preposición about.
u-huh	Interjección que indica certeza, usada para demostrar que uno tiene razón. Equivale al castellano ajá!
an utter fool	un completo idiota
